Day 7: Protection
“And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.”
What is spiritual protection? The Bible is clear that we are in a spiritual battle. Ephesians 6:10-12 says “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we[d] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Spiritual protection comes from wearing the armour of God daily: the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes fitted with the Gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit.
How do we pray for protection? Ask God for strength when faced with temptation. Identify the areas where you are weak or are easily tempted and pray for God to give you strength and support when faced with these temptations. Also pray for God to protect you against the schemes of the evil one.
Biblical example of prayer for protection:
Though I am surrounded by troubles,
you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.
You reach out your hand,
and the power of your right hand saves me.
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
For ourselves: Ask for strength, and for God to remove you from situations where you will be faced with temptation.
For LIFT: Pray for God to put His protective hand over the bar that we meet in, and for His presence to overpower what happens in the bar Monday-Saturday.
For our city: Pray for the leadership of our city, that their decisions would be guided by truth and righteousness.
