New Grad – Alexandra Phillips!

I heard about LIFT in my first year at McMaster through my roommate who had been to Clubsfest and thought it might be something I would be interested in. At the time, I was involved in a church back home, and didn’t think I needed to be involved with anything else, but God had other plans for me. The LIFT information card sat on my desk all of first and second year before I decided to do anything about it. The summer going into third year I kept feeling a nudging on my heart to see what LIFT was all about. I heard about the LIFT Leadership Retreat that coming August and decided this was the perfect opportunity. So I jumped in head first to this weekend retreat, knowing only one other person. That weekend, I met so many wonderful people that I am now lucky enough to call some of my closest friends. I signed up to be a Simple Church leader and I also distinctly remember the thought of leading a mission trip to Monterrey, Mexico pop into my head although I had only known these people less than 48 hours.

The following year I spent all my free time getting involved in all that LIFT has to offer – Simple Churches, Heart to Heart, Red Frogs and so much more. Hamilton transformed from this scary place into a warm welcoming home. LIFT Church has taught me how to be intentional for the Kingdom of God, shown me true community and supported my dream of orphan care ministry in Mexico. I am so excited that this coming May, through the support of many, I will be taking 10 people from LIFT to Monterrey Mexico, to spend a week loving and pouring in the children we meet. I can’t wait for the two places that have played such an important role in my life to collide.

God is so good and His plans are bigger than mine. He knows who I am and what I need more than I will ever know myself. When God nudges your heart, listen and obey and I can promise you, you will not regret it. As I prepare to graduate in less than a month and many important decision about my future await, I thank Jesus for his provision and a church family that surrounds me with love and support.
