We are starting something new at LIFT. Join us for the 75 Day Journey!

Well, if the yellow and crispy water deprived grass, and soupy humid air hasn’t already informed you: it is now officially summer. The summer is always an exciting time for us in Canada, we bask in the the knowledge that we can stand outside without a coat or sweater, and it makes sunburns more manageable because we know – oh we know – it won’t last.
This mentality drives much of what we do in the summer. There is a sense that we should just relax and take it easy. For students; you don’t have school, and even if you’re working, when you have free time, you feel as if you should take advantage of your free time because it’s summer. Even for those of us in the workplace; when the warm weather comes, we think of weekends away, nights staying up later and just going to work more tired, but we want to rest and have fun because it’s summer… it won’t last.
This kind of thinking can also start to have an effect on our faith…
“ I think I will skip church today because I just want to enjoy some relaxation! I’ll be back at LIFT in the fall.”
“ Well I would serve…”
“ Well I would read the Bible….”
“I would stay in community….”
But it’s summer – and it won’t last! – Can’t I draw back for a bit?
Whether you are at LIFT for the summer, or somewhere else, our heart for you and our hope and prayer is that you do find rest. However we wouldn’t be doing you any favours if we told you that drawing back is the way to do it.
Matthew 28-30 in the message “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Finding rest, recovering, living freely and lightly, are all of the things we desire when we think about the summer. But Jesus is clear that those things are found, not when we withdraw, but when we press in – to him.
We are 75 days out from our Fall Launch at LIFT Church, and let me tell you – big things in store. We are believing that God is going to do greater things in our church than ever before, that we are going to reach more people than ever before, and that the name of Jesus will be more well known and declared over our campuses and cities than ever before.
But all of that starts with us, as the church, pressing in to Jesus.
So whether you are home, plugged in to church, out of church, have read your Bible every day, or are letting it collect dust…. we challenge you to press into Jesus, and invite you to join us for the 75 day journey.
For the next 75 days leading up to launch, we will walking through a chapter a day of the Bible, and our prayer for you is that it would be a journey in growing closer to Jesus, and growing in your faith. We are going to write a devotional every few days to keep us all on the same page, and myself, Pastor Robin, Pastor Emily, Pastor Kelly, and some other guest writers are going to share something awesome that jumped out at us from what we are reading.
So Day 1 – Read the first Chapter of John.
Day 2 Tomorrow Read John 2
